Center access with patty clearance Cleaning the feeder
| Tip: If your old top cover is warped, it may introduce enough gap between the underside of the cover and the top edges of the feeder to allow bees access to the feeding reservoir from the outside. You may be able to alleviate this problem by placing heavy rocks on the two higher corners of the cover, which may press these corners down and possibly correct the warping over time. As an alternative, you may also apply adhesive foam weather strips to the four top edges of the feeder; these strips are available at your local hardware store. |
| The Year-Round Hive-top Feeder™ is BeeCARE's premier honeybee feeder, allowing feeding access all year, even to the winter brood cluster in northern regions. This feeder works for you all year long whenever you need to supplement your bees' diet or administer medication in sugar syrup. The Year-Round Hive-top Feeder benefits you in the following ways: Our feeder has a large reservoir that holds almost two gallons of sugar syrup, much more than either the Boardman or the division board feeder, so you need to visit the hive to refill it less often. Its high capacity reservoir design allows you to add almost two gallons of syrup using the EZ-Fill Top Cover, without concern about overfilling. Bees aren't as prone to sting you with this feeder as with a Boardman feeder, since the feeding area is totally enclosed within the hive. And your honeybees are less likely to drown and corrupt the sugar syrup as with a division board feeder.
The center feeder design makes it easier for bees in a winter brood cluster to gain access to the syrup in cold weather.
Designed as a general-purpose feeder for year-round use, not just winter feeding
Screened ventilation holes on all four sides of the feeder improve temperature regulation and moisture content within the hive. The screening keeps the holes from becoming additional entrances, which prevents robbing. The 45-degree upward angle of the holes prevents any rain from getting into the hive.
Removable feeder screens allow you to clean the feeder reservoir to keep the feeder usable for years to come.
The bottom of the feeder is elevated to provide additional clearance for pollen, grease or extender patties, which are often placed in the center of the brood box, directly over the brood cluster. This allows the use of the center feeding area for syrup and food patties at the same time.
The screened feeding area prevents the honeybees from escaping into the feeder reservoir when it is empty -- when you lift the Top Cover or look through the refill tube of the EZ-Fill Top Cover to check the syrup level, bees cannot fly out at you, allowing you to add syrup without having to completely suit up with your bee suit (see *Tip in the sidebar).
Since the feeding area is totally enclosed on top of the hive body, robbing from other hives cannot occur. This is especially important when using feeding-stimulant medications in the syrup, such as Honey-B-Healthy.
Excellent materials and construction give you years of reliable service.
Note: The Inner Cover should not be used when the Hive-top Feeder is installed. If the inner cover is installed below the feeder, the small space between the cover and the feeder discourages the bees from accessing the sugar syrup. Using the inner cover above the feeder will interfere with checking the syrup level and refilling the feeder through the EZ-Fill Top Cover. Use the inner cover only when the Hive-top Feeder is not on the hive. |
