| Honey Super with Frames
|
| A honey super is a hive box placed above the brood chamber and is used to store surplus honey, which you can extract and enjoy yourself. The honey supers contain only honey, since the queen is kept out of the supers by placing a Queen Excluder between the top Brood Box and the bottom honey super. Each hive containing a mature, productive colony (usually beginning in the second season) will require at least a bottom, and possibly a top, honey super for the spring and fall honeyflows; some may require even more! BeeCARE's honey super is called the 10-Frame Vented Super, and is a completely preassembled, 6-5/8" medium super, made of commercial-quality pine with larger, more secure handholds. Each contains 10 frames, which are US-made, genuine Pierco one-piece frames with honeycomb-cell embossed foundation. All our frames come with a 10-year guarantee. The frames and foundation are coated with a layer of pure beeswax to encourage rapid honeycomb development when the frames are newly introduced into the hive. Each super also has screened, angled ventilation holes below the handholds at either end. These provide critical added ventilation for temperature control in the summer and moisture control in the winter. By being screened on the inside, each hole provides ventilation without an additional entrance that could allow robbing. Each hole is drilled at an upward 45-degree angle to keep the rain out, even during a fierce thunderstorm. |
