The Hive-top Feeder in Action

Here you can see a honeybee that has just discovered a newly-placed Hive-top Feeder full of sugar syrup.  She is clinging to the wire mesh in the feeding area that keeps the bees from escaping into the syrup reservoir when the feeder is empty.  If you look closely, you can see her proboscis (tongue) protruding into the syrup.  She is tasting the syrup and will take a sample down to the rest of the colony and tell the other bees about her fabulous find.  It won't take long for an entire crowd of hungry bees to make their way into the feeder and consume the syrup.
