| Frames for your brood boxes or honey supers are made of wood and contain either plastic or beeswax foundation. If you buy your frames unassembled, you can follow these instructions to put them together. | ||
| Assembly task | |
| Step 1 - Collect your materials Each wooden frame consists of two end bars, a top bar, and a bottom bar. You will need these frame components, some wood glue, and a nail gun to assemble the frames. You may of course use a hammer and nails, but this is so error-prone and time-consuming that we don't recommend it. | |
| Step 2 - Glue and fit the end bars onto the top bar The joints for the end bars on each top bar need to be glued before the end bars are fitted. Put a bead of wood glue in both top bar joints, as shown here. Fit the end bars onto the top bar joints, snapping them into the joints snugly. Fit both end bars into the top bar. | |
| Step 3 - Insert foundation sheet (for plastic foundation) If you are using plastic foundation, slide the sheet of foundation into the grooves in the end bars and insert the top of the sheet into the groove in the top bar. | |
| Step 4 - Glue and fit the bottom bar onto the end bars The joints for the bottom bar on each end bar need to be glued before the bottom bar is fitted. Put a bead of wood glue in both end bar joints, as shown here. Fit the bottom bar onto the end bar joints, snapping it into the joints snugly. | |
| Step 5 - Complete the assembly by nailing the frame Nail the bars together to complete the frame assembly. Start with the bottom bar, nailing both sides to the bottoms of the end bars. | |
| Nail both sides of the top bar to the tops of the end bars. | |
| Finally, nail both end bars to the top bar to complete the assembly. | |
| The completed frame Your frame is now completely assembled and ready to use immediately inside your hive box. |
