Refilling your Hive-top Feeder
with Sugar Syrup
Step 1 2 3 4
![]() | Check the Feeder Tilt the back side of the top cover up so you can see the level of syrup in the feeder. You may not even need to refill the feeder. You can gauge how fast the bees are taking the syrup by recording the date on which you filled up the feeder. For a one-gallon feeder, the bees should completely consume the syrup in a matter of 5 to 7 days. If not, the hive population is low, and you should consider requeening the hive. The exception to this rule of thumb is during an exceptionally strong nectar flow, in which case the bees will naturally ignore the syrup to some extent. If the syrup stays too long in the feeder, it will mold, and you will need to clean the feeder. Note: This step is not necessary when refilling syrup through the BeeCARE EZ-Fill™ Top Cover, as shown here. |
