Full Body Suit

You may be able to find a cheaper bee suit, but you will get what you pay for.  This bee suit, called the BeeCARE Full Body Suit, has a superior design that is much more effective and convenient than many other suits, including old-style suits (see old style below).  Notice that the Full Body Suit has an integrated hood and veil that does not require a separate hat and veil.  Its wrist and ankle cuffs are bee-safe and sealed with elastic, so it does not require the use of straps.  The suit is more convenient, safer, and is more comfortable and easier to use than old-style bee suits.

Sting Protection

The Full Body Suit provides excellent protection, comfort, convenience and durability.  If properly sized and worn, the Full Body Suit provides sting protection when you are working the hives or dealing with other stinging insects such as wasps and hornets.  This suit is much easier to work with than suits requiring an older-style hat and veil, and its fully zippered, non-binding, versatile design will make it a pleasure to use for many years.  As an alternative, the Bee Jacket is identical to the Full Body Suit, except it lacks the full-length pants with zippers and elastic cuffs at the ankles.  The Bee Jacket provides somewhat more convenient protection for lower-risk situations at the expense of the more complete protection for the entire body provided by the Full Body Suit.

This old-style bee suit, graciously modeled by my photogenic graphics artist, is a full-length suit with a zippered bee veil.  The problems with these old-style hat & veil combinations include:

  • Old-style hats & veils are less comfortable and harder to wear, since the hat can shift position on your head and the veil frame can make turning your head difficult.

  • If the veil requires a drawstring, it can break and open up your veil at seemingly the worst possible time, such as when you are lifting a heavy brood box full of bees or stuck under a crawl space when dealing with a swarm.

  • Drawstrings on old-style veils require more time to put on and take off.

  • Pith helmets used with coveralls and veils never provide the level of comfort, visibility, and ease of head movement you enjoy with an integrated hood.

  • Simple coveralls don't provide the elastic bee seals at the wrists and ankles, nor do they have the full-length zippers at the ankles, making it impossible to put the coveralls on and take them off without removing your boots.
