| Dual-Access Hive-top Feeder Quality-Assurance Leak Testing |
A hive-top feeder that leaks causes you to lose syrup, makes syrup run into your hive (which can harm your bees and attract insect pests), and increases the frequency of refilling the feeder. These problems defeat the entire purpose of using a hive-top feeder.
To ensure these problems will not occur, each of our Dual-Access Hive-top Feeders is carefully hand-crafted using the highest quality materials, including water-seal Gorilla Glue™ (syrup reservoir), TiteBond™ III exterior-grade waterproof wood glue (exterior joints), deck-grade weatherproof screws, brads, inert silicone caulk, and marine-grade polyurethane (Minwax™ Indoor/Outdoor Helmsman Spar Urethane, Semi-Gloss). But to further increase reliability, each feeder also undergoes thorough leak testing during the final stages of the manufacturing process before it ever leaves our facility. This assures you years of reliable service from each feeder you place on your hives.
During each feeder's leak testing cycle, we use pure water, not sugar syrup, to ensure that if any feeder is going to leak, we will find it first before it even leaves our site. Each feeder is tested for 24 to 48 hours under varying conditions of temperature, sunlight and humidity. The conditions of the leak test will reveal whether the original water seal of the reservoir is tight and whether any of the wood in the feeder frame will later warp, breaking the seal. After the leak testing cycle, each feeder is dried and the final screening assembly is added before packaging. When you receive your new feeder, it's immediately ready to paint and put on your hives, with the assurance that all that will happen is easy, hassle-free and effective feeding of your honeybees, with no surprises.
