| Dual-Access Hive-top Feeder No Burr Comb in Feeding Areas |
The Dual-Access Hive-top Feeder is designed so bees cannot build annoying, counter-productive burr comb in the feeding areas. Honeybees are designed to make maximum usage of their beehive space, so where there is room to build comb, they will probably try. This is especially prevalent with newly-installed honeybee packages or newly-hived swarms. Other hive-top feeders have feeding areas large enough for bees to build this burr comb.
The problems with burr comb in a feeder include: 1) the comb is used for egg-laying and honey storage, and it will need to be periodically removed to maintain the hive; the time, energy, brood, and honey from this comb is wasted; 2) removal of the comb becomes a time-wasting hassle when you are opening and inspecting the hive; 3) the comb blocks bee access to the feeding areas.
The Dual-Access Hive-top Feeder has hive-access slots with an optimal width to allow your bees easy access to the feeder but prevent the bees from building burr comb in these areas. You will not need to deal with pulling burr comb out of the feeding areas, removing the screening, and scraping off the excess beeswax.
