Honeybees don't appreciate running into unexpected objects in their flight path on their way into and out of the hive.  If they run into you, they will probably get mad and be more prone to sting.  When you enter the apiary and approach the hives, notice the bees' predominant flight path, and do your best to stay out of it.  Usually, you can do this by staying to the back or side of the hive; just be aware of where the bees are flying.
